I'm not the least bit embarrassed to say that I got fired once. Worked for a start up biotech company in the late 80's as a sales rep. The weird thing is, we didn't have a product to sell as they started a small sales force awaiting FDA approval, that ultimately never came.

I was hired by two Jesus dudes that would praise the lord often but didn't let this on during the interview process. That was weird to me.

I met my future wife, a rep in another part of the country, at this company. We hit it off and apparently, these two Jesus dudes didn't take to kindly to it. It didn't take long but they soon put the wheels in motion to usher me out. As we didn't have a product to sell, there wasn't much for a salesperson to be evaluated on, so the axe fell and they fired me without cause.

I spoke to a labor lawyer but he said in La (right to work state) the employment was at will and that they could fire me. Cest La Vie.

I was able to negotiate a 6 months severance, got a job in 3 months and double dipped for 3. Not a bad deal. The company folded when the FDA denied approval and they fired everyone with a 3 month severance. Our pay ended at the same time, but I had a job.

How did I react? I got an email saying that they would come to get all my work materials and computer. They flew in and I met them at an airport hotel parking lot. Gave them all the company stuff, handed them the computer last after I signed the severance deal, thanked and God Blessed them, shook their hands, thanked them for the opportunity, gave them the company computer and told them that they should think twice before they tried to boot it up.

It was the best thing that ever happened to me but I didn't appreciate it at the time.

I wonder if they ever booted that computer up.

Never been fired.

Got laid off once. It felt great....the job was shite, the company was shite, and they paid pennies.

Got a much better job a couple weeks after. (I was already looking for a new job most of the time I was there anyway)

I've been fired numerous times. My emotional reaction is anger, either directed to myself or the morons I work for.

It's all about the money, eh?

Healthy attitude. A job you can't stand will take years off your life.

Yep, once, I knew it was coming though so I can't really say I was surprised. Turned in my time sheet, grabbed my personal belongings, gave this one waste of space the middle finger, and made my departure.
