Spinoff: Do you look down upon/view as trashy active duty military w/ tattoos?

I live in a town with a fairly large military base. Most of the military personnel I come into contact with are family men, drive nice well kept vehicles, are in good physical shape and are polite and respectful. Most also have visible tattoos. A good many have sleeves.
Do military members get a pass? What if they are war heros?

You can respect what they are doing, but still look down on their trashy tattoos. It's not mutually exclusive.

When I see a tattoo I automatically think "why the frick did they do that?" Regardless who it is. I've never seen a good looking tattoo.
