Don’t Count on a Reduction if you were Caught Speeding 25mph Over In Jefferson Parish, the District Attorney’s Office will usually not give reductions for speeding tickets if you have been cited for exceeding the posted speed limit by 25mph or more. This means that your citation will likely not be dismissed, nor will the prosecuting office be willing to accept any argument against the charge.
If the District Attorney’s Office is not willing to reduce your ticket you may still have one option, however. Under Article 894 of the Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure, an accused offender may enter a guilty plea in exchange for an opportunity to have the conviction expunged after a successful completion of a probationary period.
Entering an 894 Plea When you enter an 894 plea you are pleading guilty to the accused offense and will have to pay the cost of the ticket. Typically, a fine for exceeding the posted speed limit by 25mph is $250. However, if the plea is accepted and you do not receive another traffic ticket for the next 30 days, the ticket will not be reported to your insurance company. This means your car insurance premium won’t increase due to the ticket. Although an 894 plea is technically not meant to be used for traffic citations, most district attorney offices and courts will allow you to enter this type of plea. Prosecutors and judges understand that there may be situations in which an individual may not be deserving of the full punishment to which they face, and will allow them to plea for a reduced penalty if they can show that they are typically safe drivers.

How much did the attorney cost?
I’d rather just pay it and be done honestly.

Arkansas
driving into work @ 545am on a rural highway. Normally don't drive that fast but I passed a car and kept that same speed through a soft blind curve and he was coming through it the same time as I was and lit me up.

if y'all baws would do the time/distance math you'd see the risk/reward for driving like this isn't worth it, or maybe just manage your time better

Not sure where you live, but they may offer nolo contendre(sp?), if you have no tickets in the past 5 years and you just pay a flat fee.
A lot of judges hate the bullshiat and adjust things to "too fast for conditions," and you pay a flat fee.
It's a freaking ATM for the gubment. $170. $170. $170...

For those with past experience, what is the best course here?
Realistically, an attorney is not going to get you any better of a deal in Jefferson Parish than you could get yourself pleading under 894. The DA generally does not reduce charges for over 25.
As far as fines and costs are concerned, an attorney may be able to work with the judge to get the fines and costs reduced but the amount you have to pay would likely not be worth it.

Wait. Plead no contest. Confirm this. Different states have different laws.

Here is Texas usually if it's more than 24mph above the limit, you can't get a deferred adjudication.

There is no way your fine was only $165 for 28 over. I was 6 over in St. Gabriel in 2007 and paid $165. I know, St. Gabriel, but still.
