Yes I agree you establish who the parents are and the rules at an early age and then kids know if they cross the line there will be consequences.

My dad whipped my arse once when I was young and I remember it to this day. Just once.

I raised mine where that when I sat them down and talked to them about how what they did disappointed me, they would’ve probably rather a beating.

spanking is trashy and harmful

There are times when a spanking can be appropriate but it should be used relatively rarely. People that fall back on it as their primary method of discipline are just lazy assholes.

Sirach, Chapter 30 :"He who loves his sone chastises him OFTEN." "...thrash their sides while they are still young, lest they WILL disobey you."
...not they might disobey you. They WILL disobey you.
These words were written over 2000 years ago. What we witness today are parents that pamper their kids. Kids today play video games and avoid chores. A few kids might have low level chores, but almost none of them are developing a work ethic for success in the future. They may finally mature by 30 or 40, but the future looks bleak with these kids today. They are growing up very confused thanks to the liberal agenda in most schools.

50 year scientific study says spanking kids is linked with the same negative child outcomes as abuse, just to a slightly lesser degree

Going to need to see this study.

Here you are: LINK

if 81% of americans think spanking is appropriate why are kids still misbehaving all of the time?

Spanking studies all suffer from biases. Until we get a randomized control trial of spanking (which we won't), I'm going to go along with the idea that sparingly used corporal punishment can be an effective tool in raising children.

Violence is effective.

Works for the Muslim world. Things seem to go well there. Symbol of progress and enlightenment.
