Governor Greg Abbott today announced SpaceX will construct a vertically integrated semiconductor fabrication plant in Grimes County. The first phase of the Terafab project represents a capital investment of more than $16.8 billion and will create 3,000 new jobs. A Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant of $30 million has been extended to SpaceX. The facility is also a qualified project under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program.
Already home to the global headquarters for SpaceX, a significant advanced manufacturing presence, and its Starbase launch facility, Texas was selected by SpaceX for the Terafab project because of the state’s business-friendly climate, skilled and growing workforce, robust infrastructure, and logistical advantages. The 100-million-square-foot facility will consolidate the production chain under a single roof to accelerate semiconductor manufacturing to meet the company’s future chip needs; jobs will include engineers, technicians, and plant operator personnel.

This is being build at the old site of a lignite power generation project and the accompanying Gibbon's Creek Reservoir. They will use the reservoir for water needs and recycle it just as the power plant did.
This is a stone's throw from Bryan-College Station.

Musk thinks big thoughts!

financially this is a great project. I reviewed the entire proposal from the county side and it should bring a lot of needed jobs and money to the area.

What’s wrong with Indians?

They are essentially chocolate Mormons.

They have a powerful dislike of Muslims as well, going back over 1300 yesrs

And they drive wages down in the US. There are Americans that can do those jobs, they just won't do it for that wage.

I hate to ruin your fun, but Space eXploration applied for only 16 H1B visas in 2025. You must be confusing it with Boeing.

That doesn’t make any economic sense

Wages are determined by the marginal product of labor (MPL)

Phillip likes a country with chronically underemployed grouchy, restless, impressionable, easily led (hoodwinked) people.

100% this. They're smart about it. They hire other people too, but they never seem to work out and they end up hiring another Indian.

You don't think importing H1Bs has any impact on the wages of Americans?

The playbook when they hire a non-Indian is only give the new hire bare minimum information and integrate him as little into the team as possible. Have others give him convoluted and conflicting information. They'll work non standard hours like 10am until 7pm, but keep the "other guy" on the "early shift." Then they'll get reports that the other guy on the early shift isn't doing his work when they're not there and he's termed. Nevermind he was doing what he was told.
