re: Southwest Airlines - changes coming (assigned seats)

Downvote. I always paid for Early Bird checkin, usually ended up around A25-30, and nearly 100% of the time got an exit row seat. The hottentots that feign a gimp (especially bad in MSY) weren’t allowed on the exit rows. The downside is that I won’t get to miss the midair miracles where these same folks were wheeled to their seat in a wheelchair on departure, only to sprint off the plane on arrival.

What are you inferring with that statement?

One thing I don’t see mentioned in that excerpt is the amount of fake preboarders that Southwest deals with. That has led to a lot of dissatisfaction with the customer base.
You have to de incentivize this. Make them board last. Make it mandatory for them to check bags. Make them get off the plane last. They’ll stop abusing it if it’s inconvenient.

Noooo.
I like the cattle call because babies and young kids get on first, so I can pick a seat far away.

This was a reason I didn't fly SW often. I didn't like the boarding process.

No they don't. They board between A and B.

Hopefully they go the alternating WILMA route of boarding.
Back to front window seats, every other row and alternating rows on opposite sides. Then back to front alternate window seats. Then the same for middle and the same for aisle.

Southwest is already so expensive. If they start charging extra for shite their prices will be even more ridiculous
What?
They are cheap as hell

And Southwest is just fine. They are cheaper or more expensive depending on where you are flying to or from. MSY, Vegas, Denver, Dallas Love, Chicago, IAD, etc. no problem and cheaper.
The clientele is not great, but American and United can have the same issues. I will say that also kind of depends on where you are flying too and from in my experience. MSY to Miami? Yikes! MSY to IAD, no issues.

Every flight I’m on they call for people with young children before they start the regular boarding
I forget to check in so I’m usually a B anyway.
Admittedly, I only fly maybe once or twice a year, but all the screamers and seat kickers are already on when I board so I can choose accordingly . Without fail on any other airline i’ve got one right behind me kicking my seat and being ignored by a parent, or one right next to me screaming. I’m sure that streak will continue next week.

flying solo, I love Southwest. Find a baw bigger than me sitting in a window or aisle of a row, a virtual guarantee of an empty middle seat.

I hate how airlines use "calculated misery" economics. They make you so miserable with small seats and no legroom that you will eventually pay more for upgrades.

It's horrible. We were stunned last time we flew Southwest and the wheelchair line had like 15 wheelchairs and each one had a family with them.

I flew American from Boston to Jackson thru Charlotte a couple of weeks ago...saw a record number of wheelchairs on both flights...
at Charlotte, I had to check my briefcase and pulled up my VA disability on my phone to show the gate people (90%) to early board...

You must be searching in the wrong spot padnuhh.
I fly very frequently and rarely use Southwest bc they are almost always more expensive
It sounds like I am searching the right spot.
I flew 4 people round trip from JAN to MCO in February for $365. That's less than 100 each ticket. Not to mention bags are included. Southwest is consistently the cheapest option for us

simply that i dont begrudge a company wanting to increase margins and make more money. but when it's something like air travel where there are already very limited options and people HAVE to fly, it's frustrating when the few existing companies make a shitty experience even shittier so they can make more money.
obviously you dont like what i said, so let's argue.
Posted on 7/25/24 at 9:46 am to DrEdgeLSU
All it is is more money they're gonna charge us, but regardless, I have never really had any complaints about Southwest. To me they are by far and away the best of the main airlines. I pretty much only use them.

Often times there is no wheelchair. It's just a bunch of seemingly able bodied adults that somehow got pre-boarding designation. It's outrageous.
I do not mind a geriatric in a wheelchair and their caregiver getting on before me. A bunch of Karens with "anxiety" is another thing.

Agreed. Longer than 2.5 and I'm a Delta man if I can get it.
