As part of its ongoing focus on product evolution, the airline is moving forward with plans to assign seats, offer premium seating options, redesign the boarding model, and introduce redeye flying.

quote:

After listening carefully to Customers and conducting extensive research, Southwest decided it will assign seats and offer premium seating options on all flights. The airline has been known for its unique open seating model for more than 50 years, but preferences have evolved with more Customers taking longer flights where a seat assignment is preferred. Additionally, Southwest conducted robust operational testing that included live and over 8 million simulation-based boarding trials. The airline is confident that these Customer enhancements will meet expectations and not compromise the airline's operational efficiency.

Do not like.

I always liked picking the aisle or window seat next to a skinny old couple

Southwest is terrible. I HATE flying them. This is a step in the right direction.

Aside from the boarding and trash, which I believe the boarding process invites, they really aren't bad.

My favorite thing about SWA is the efficiency. Always board on-time. As soon as you land and pull up to the gate, someone is immediately there to open the door.

Customer: Can y’all do something about the layovers? And maybe get better snacks than these salty arse shits?

Southwest: What’s that? Assigned seating which you’ll have to pay extra for and new boarding process? You’ve got it!

I've never seen anyone complain about that and as the article says

quote:

"The research is clear and indicates that 80% of Southwest Customers, and 86% of potential Customers, prefer an assigned seat. When a Customer elects to stop flying with Southwest and chooses a competitor, open seating is cited as the number one reason for the change. By moving to an assigned seating model, Southwest expects to broaden its appeal and attract more flying from its current and future Customers.

And I would lump the boarding process and all the jetbridge jesus' as the assigned seating issue.

Southwest is already so expensive. If they start charging extra for shite their prices will be even more ridiculous

Anytime a company has been "listening to customers" and announces how they are going to improve the experience or some shite, you can almost rest assured that 1) price will go up and 2) experience will get worse.

I'm a capitalist through and through, but man these companies make it hard sometimes.

I'm sure this new program will be smoothly integrated into their existing top tier technology.

I wouldn't anticipate any hitches in the giddy-up.

No, sir.

It’s me. I’m the customer who complains about incessant layovers and terrible snack options.

I honestly don't see how they do it. They swap out planes so much, you know there are going to be flights booked on new system that end up on non-upgraded planes.

I'd bet this is a 3-5yr implementation.

Never once had an issue with SW and not finding a direct or multiple directs to a location.

Like any airline, depends on the network and which airports youre flying in and out of.

Could say the exact same thing about Delta out of Houston. There are almost 0 directs to major cities, all have to route through Atlanta.

A ton of people just love to complain

SW gets me from point A to point B in one piece. Incredible rewards points program. VERY customer friendly if anything happens to your baggage or delays.

I'm gonna put them all out of business by making a new airline that loads the plane from back to front.
