Besides reduced profit, what would stop a troll landlord from renting to Section 8 in University Club?
Section 8 only covers a smallish portion of the rent, I think. No one who qualifies for Section 8 could afford the rest of the rent in U Club. And chances are they couldn't afford it in Southdowns either, which is why this is just a troll job.

I've seen advertisements on a few real estate websites - realtor, remax, etc advertising rentals in U Club. Granted, they are $3000 per month, but if the HOA allows rentals they can't prohibit Section 8 on discrimination grounds.

While we're getting ready for the big day while we try to sell a condo and buy a house... a lot going on.

With this being said, isn't Southdowns rent always pretty steep? How much would said Section 8ers have to come out of pocket for a $1600 a month place?

How about instead of creating a massive pool to buy the property we attack the root of the problem, which is the stupid ordinance against three unrelated persons living in the same place? Who wants to pool together to buy multiple pieces of property near LSU that can't be rented to LSU students?
I get that people want to keep families in the area, but it's right by LSU and a perfect area for students.
Hell my property is in Captiol Heights and I never have problem renting to students.

My parents didn't get a computer until 2008...and that was one donated by a friend. I didn't have one myself until 2002(that was an old one given to me as well).
I didn't get a cell phone until 2003.

We're leaving to make the trip over a week before the wedding, so the condo will just be chilling and the house hunt will be postponed. If we haven't moved by then at least.
That'll be prime time for someone to come in and buy it for their LSU student kid, so if it takes that long, so be it.

So glad she is doing well. I will echo Wink and say that we do miss her here.

I hate section 8. We have one house that popped up section 8 a block over and I fear it will spread.
I have a friend who lives with this chick who has a house in Central City she pays $15 a month for. For three bedrooms. The friend delivers pizza she doens't work. Both have 50" or better LCDs, Ipads, iphones, PS$, XBOX1. And yet the one car between the two of them has sat broken down for nearly two months now.

Yes! A strip club next to every school and a bar next to every church.

My parents were Postal management they didn't ball, but made secent money. We always had computers. Commodore 63, Atarai, Amiga, green screen apple, Packard Bell, Gateway..
I got my first cell phone in High School in 1997. It was rare as hell to have a Cell phone even then in school. But phones were getting more common.

It's currently on the market. No sign in front, but it's listed.
It has two sides, each rent for $850 a month. I think it could go for more. Rented a side last week. The day the ad was in craigslist, had seven people want to see it. Three wanted it and filled out applications(a formality, never do background checks) next day had someone signing a lease. A new owner can keep the tenants or give thirty day notice to void the lease.

Living in the area, I don't mind the scattered rentals to college aged kids.. What I desire is that the yards are kept clean, the streets not littered with cars and trash and that they respect the reality that many of the residents are families.. The occasional slip of these rules isn't an issue, the constant blight is what becomes a problem..but I don't see much of that these days.. My street doesn't seem to have many, if any, rentals to college aged kids and is pretty quiet except the traffic.
