I've been trying to convince my wife to let me build a rape dungeon in our house for years, but it's "too expensive". Congrats on yours though.

Call it a "Jungle Room" and she might change her mind. It's all about branding.

If I make a room where we keep exotic animals, I'll call it a "jungle room". For my intended purposes, "rape dungeon" seems spot on.

Thicker walls, 6 inch is better. Blown in insulation is fine. You cannot put sheetrock on the studs. They make an aluminum strip the sheetrock will fasten to instead. If you put the sheetrock on the studs, it acts like a huge diaphragm and you won't get the noise reduction you're looking for. The strips stop the the sound from reverberating through the sheetrock. If you have windows in the room, get a sound curtain. They're ugly and only come in black. It won't muffle it all but it's better than miniblinds and cheap curtins.

To expound on this, blown works better if it is packed in but that can reduce R value. Along with the isolation clips, double up the sheetrock and sandwich them with a product called Green Glue. If double sheetrock isn't an option, I've seen people line a wall with a mass loaded vynil underneath the sheetrock, if it's a large room that can get pricey. Make sure you put acoustical backer pads on all your outlets and switches, you'd be amazed and the amount of sound that can travel through those little spaces.
