Know a guy with one. He flew in the Caribbean for a while. Think he's a firefighter now.

The NGAA Catalina II will be the largest, fastest, longest range, highest payload, and most capable amphibious aircraft available worldwide with Western Certifications.

I'm interested to know how the specs compare to the DHC-515, which Viking/DeHavilland Canada is trying to return to production. I'm not sure that some of those boasts would be true, since the CL-415 (previous version) was definitely heavier and would surely be faster than the notoriously slow Catalina, even if you gave it turboprop power.

yep, I would imagine that’s a rarity, and with good reason, I think he maintains it because he takes some time off every year to do some designee work

Jimmy Buffett used to fly around in an Albatross (the famed Hemisphere Dancer).

That was the seaplane he owned before Hemisphere Dancer I believe It was a Grumman Widgeon, not the big Albatross.

Would love to experience the Catalina. I think the 2008 economy crash took them out of business, but there used to be a company in south Florida that owned a handful of restored PanAm Clippers (or some other seaplane like that) and flew them on passenger service routes into the Caribbean Islands.
