Not saying the story is true but not all plants have a no cell phone policy. Some even allow you to use them in the unit but you’re supposed to have an approved intrinsically safe case.

Especially if he was inside doing an inspection. Lots of places will just get an intrinsically safe phone case to take pictures instead of buying an intrinsically safe camera

You can probably get a good view from the San Jac Monument.

Interviewed a forklift operator a few years ago that had gotten fired from a contractor at exxon baytown.

We asked what happen. He told us he took a selfie inside of the plant and captioned it on Instagram ”stay hungry my n....” the exxon marketing department caught it.

This is what? The 2nd or 3rd fire/explosion, in the Baytown area, in the past few months.

I think it's the third. Don't forget about the Amazon plane that crashed in Trinity Bay. Imagine a 767 nose diving into a plant.

Almost all of the ones I go in don't explicitly outlaw phones, but they do not allow pictures unless approved. PITA, because I've got to spend 10 minutes writing stuff down instead of 10 seconds taking a picture of it

So he had his cellphone on him while he was in the unit and inside a tank? Not sure I buy that.

I can tell you've never worked as a contract hand. Damn near everyone has their phone in their pockets. The sandblasters on the job I'm at have rigged their airhoods to hold their cell phones.

But if the plant is on fire and I'm trapped in a tank you better believe I'm calling my family. The frick they gonna do at that point?

I'm seriously wondering how he got any service though normally your service goes to shite when you're around the towers and tanks

First thing that’s cut off of turnarounds are valves. If they survive the cut list, the crap Korean valves are installed. Tai valves or whatever the hell they are called. The pipe is no different. Or better yet, risk assessments are involved and the problem is “mitigated” until the next downtime. Then it’s wash, rinse, repeat while preaching to the worker that they should pull their card and adjust their behavior to work safely in the environment.
