Social Media "Outrage" Crap - American Eagle Outfitters

Why in the hell do companies constantly and quickly buckle to the ridiculous social media outrages of the day made by such a relatively small and undoubtedly radicalized part of our society?
Case in point:

American Eagle stops selling 'shackle bracelet' amid 'slavery' concerns
I believe this whole thing is fueled at least in part by companies constantly giving in to these idiots and thus empowering their use of social media to attack anything and everything. It's even more ludicrous when these number of people complaining is so minuscule.
How will this shite finally end??

I would really like to know who thought it was fashionable. It's literally a shackle, it just doesn't have a locking mechanism or a nut that tightens down on the bolt. Seriously, who thinks that looks fashionable? It looks like someone went through a really old farm house and dug through a box of pulleys and other tackle and thought, 'hmm, this would look cool if I wore this'. Maybe next time they can bring out the pintle earrings.
