It's fun to do it at Costco. Their nazi attendants will give you shite.
I had one try to tell me I had to turn my car off. No. Well it's a state law. No it's not. Well the fire marshall requires it. No he doesn't. Well turn it off next time. Sure, but probably not.

All myths though I would avoid this..

Ya know, thinking about this, and I guess I always assumed it was dangerous to keep the car on during refueling because of what I had been told as a youngster. I realize now that I never thought to teach my kids to turn off their cars when they are putting gas in. So, I guess in the back of my mind, I never really gave it that much concern. I guess they just assumed since my wife and I had always turned our cars off, that they should do it too.
That being said, how big of a deal is it to turn your car off during refueling and then on again when you are done?

I always leave it running if someone else is in the car.
Except at Costco. Those cats live to make you turn off your car. Idiots.

Not stalking at all. It's when you litter the board with your asinine posts expect to get called out. You've been bullying people on here for years.

What's the difference in leaving yours running and someone pulling up next to you while you're pumping with a running car?

Unlike the movies, it is almost impossible for a lit cigarette to ignite gasoline vapor in a un-confined open air space like at a gas station, a lit cigarette thrown into gasoline liquid will actually extinguish itself.
"One particular study attempted over 2,000 different scenarios and situations where gasoline and a lit cigarette could interact, and not a single attempt resulted in the gasoline catching on fire."
The no-smoking signs around gas pumps are due to the danger of using a cigarette lighter which has a higher probability of igniting gasoline vapor.

Only time I turn my truck off to fill up is when I run into the store while gas is pumping. Even then I usually remote start it on the way out. Never had a problem and I've been practicing this for many years.
