In my experience... they, as a "community", ARE a difficult bunch... my son and I took ASL through his middle school... the first couple of classes were very 'community' oriented in a very strange way- we, as a non hearing impaired impacted family unit, felt quite 'othered'.
I've never met a deaf a-hole... but their 'community' BS is very exclusive and clique'esh. They are similar to other 'communities' in their us vs them mentality.
Again, never knew a deaf a-hole as an individual, just as communities.

Actually, ASL and FSL are nearly identical, because the Americans didn't know SL and the British wanted money to teach it to us and the French were like, here we'll show you. so, we got the French version.
