I'm a conservationist. I'm for the wise use of our natural resources. I can't stand preservationists any more than I can stand people who just want to plow everything under and kill every predator.
But destroying a species for no better reason than fear is sad, and ignorant.

I'm not upset. I just disagree with your asinine argument. Especially when you are making points like the one above that have no basis. You're arguing for the sake of arguing.
Can you argue a logical reason for driving the eastern cougar to extinction? Stop. There is none, except for an irrational fear of predators.
There are more examples of the harm caused by eradicating predators than of lions driving a species to extinction.
