South America is somewhat different because they have actual countries. Central America is all one big Mexico in my book, and until they can tell me otherwise in English, they'll be Mexicans

Meh. I'm not Hispanic, Cuban, or from South America. I'm Mexican so calling me Mexican applies. This type of shite is so ridiculous.

This reminds me of the Louis CK bit about calling someone "a Jew" versus calling them "a Jew". You can say a lot with the context and tone around the same word. So it is totally possible to say "Mexican" in a derogatory way, and always has been. Not saying that you did here.

Im mexican and it dont bother me at all being called mexican. Now if some dude is talking noise and says something in a mean way like, "f'n mexican" then yea id take offense. Other than that, society needs to stop being lil bitches and stop being so sensitive.

Your ignorance was already pretty clear, then you post this and remove all doubt.

You clearly have never been outside of your little bubble. Costa Rica and Honduras are better off than Mexico. I haven't been to Panama but it likely is too. Nicaragua can be a scary place, but even they don't like Mexicans. To say that there are no distinctions between Central American nations is pure ignorance.

Is calling someone from Canada "a Canadian" racist? No, so they need to STFU.

Canadian is my friend's code word for black people.

Just start calling all Hispanics "Guatemalans" or guats. Problem solved.

I've been to both, and it certainly didn't appear to me that Hondurans were better off than Mexicans. They have a lower life expectancy, literacy rate, and a MUCH LOWER per capita GDP (both nominal and PPP) than Mexicans. And as bad as Mexico's homicide rate has been, it's nothing compared to what Honduras is dealing with. They're number one in the world... No one is even close.

ETA-Just looked it up... The murder rate in Honduras is damn near 5 times that of Mexico.

I have worked quite a bit in Mexico. They work hard, are personable , and are funny. They are also Mexicans.

They are proud to be Mexicans. They would think calling them anything but Mexicans is ludicrous. I work around a lot of Hispanic islanders now. They think calling them Mexicans is ignorant because they are not from Mexico. It makes sense to me.

Geography makes it easy.

I have a Mexican yard crew. I refer to them as Mexican because it is relevant. It's a quick way to describe the type of work ethic I'm getting.

But I can kind of get the point that it's not "normal" to point out the race (although Mexican is less racist than hispanic, since Mexican is a nationality compared to hispanic, which is in fact a race). I would never in public state that the blacks came and cut my grass today. I'd get crucified.

Not trying to be argumentative, but this isn't true. There are black hispanics, white hispanics, indigenous hispanics, and pretty much everything in-between.

You just proved my point. There are considerable distinctions between each of the Central American nations.

And? I never disagreed with your point in the first place.
