Fact. One of which was at the Waste Management Open. My colleague grew up in the same club as his kids in PHX. There were a few DUIs the Scottsdale Police let go.
The pilot shortage is an interesting issue. I completely agree with the revised work rest rules. But Colgan was a failure in CRM brought about by fatigue. But 1,500 hours as an arbitrary requirement seems daft. I'd much prefer a structured program at 500 hours where pilots practice in IMC and congested air space.
A friend of mine was just hired by PSA. He logged his 1500 with the bare minimum PIC, IMC, CC and ME, the rest of his hours weee spent in a 152 flying patterns in VFR to get the hours.

that has been addressed on the civilian side

still has mins to qualify for air carrier ops but close enough for them to pay for the rest
ETA: Parker was a Crandall minion though, we'll see how this plays out

Not sure what you are trying to say here.. that AF447 had an impact on the AA MD-83s?
AF447 was a textbook failure of CRM, but how did it cost the industry billions?
