Right. To put in perspective. In 10 years driving along a VERY popular stretch between BR and SW Miss that's a natural habitat for deer and black bear, I've seen two black bears on side of the road and estimate 200+ deer.
Maybe it's that they are far smarter than deer but it's definitely a sign they aren't as prolific.

you cant compare the densities of two different animals. Bear populations obviously will never be as dense as deer. Deer are less of a burden on an ecosystem.

From what I have read, the bear had a broken leg. Don't know if it is true or not or if it survived but W&F was there to pick it up. Another reported it was knocked out a little bit and got up and left. Who knows.

They live in the atchafalaya. They are considered a threaten species. I think that needs to be revised.

I think they announced last month that the LA black bear is being removed from the endangered list.

Sounds like they did too good of a job protecting them and now there is an over population.
