mam. I hope you realize my post out of sarcasm. I was pointing out how ridiculous it was for this to happen to someone over a word, that they may or may not have even said.

Sweetheart, I am both funny and literate...qualities you appear to be lacking.

The best way to say it is to know your audience. A lot of us here believe you. There’s also a ton of trolls and people who post things just to get a reaction from you.

You’re not familiar with the culture of this board. Just trying to help you out. You said what you had to say and you do have support here. Continuing to argue with people about it will take away from your point. It will all come out in the end.

Anyone hear anything new? She’s not at band camp and I overheard someone say they are still investigating.

You may just be stupid enough to believe that she’d willingly get herself fired for no good reason.

Plenty of people are that stupid. Is she? I don’t know.

Yikes. Band camp without the director being there is a big deal. Especially for a huge, winning band like Dutchtown.

I believe her. Every week I see posts and friend requests from friends on Facebook, and I have to do a double take because something seems off. I contact the person and let them know that they've not been hacked, but someone has stolen their identity and usually sent a friend request.

This type of scam is commonly referred to as an "impersonation scam" or "identity theft scam" on social media. Here's how it typically works (from Grok):

quote:
Identity Theft: The scammer steals a person's name, profile picture, and other personal details from their legitimate Facebook account.

Fake Account Creation: They create a new, fraudulent account that appears nearly identical to the victim's real profile.

Targeting Friends: The scammer then sends friend requests or messages to the victim’s friends, leveraging the trust those friends have in the real person.

Ask for money, claiming an emergency (e.g., "I’m stranded, please send cash via PayPal").

Request personal information, such as bank details or passwords.

Share malicious links to steal data or install malware.

Solicit donations for fake causes or scams.

This is a form of social engineering, where the scammer exploits trust to deceive victims. It’s prevalent on platforms like Facebook due to the ease of copying profiles and the large network of connections.

What to Do If Affected
Report the Fake Account: On Facebook, go to the fake profile, click the three dots (...) on their cover photo, and select "Report profile" to alert Facebook.

Warn Friends: Notify your friends not to accept friend requests or respond to messages from the fake account.

Secure Your Account: Update your privacy settings, make your friends list private, and enable two-factor authentication.

Report to Authorities: If financial loss or serious harm occurs, report it to local law enforcement or the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at ic3.gov.

If you or someone you know is experiencing this, act quickly to limit the damage!

Kids do this very thing to teachers all the time... "clone" their accounts, send friend requests to all their friends, most of whom think something just have happened and they have to add them again, then post porn or something awful or make profane comments on everything. Has happened to lots of older teachers I know.
