How satellites stay in orbit is a multidisciplinary one that involves a great of technical and academic knowledge.

good clear night the kids and I see how many we can count. I like the Iridium fare sats you can see right before dark. Even the flaring ones at night are pretty cool. Really bright flash from nowhere and then gone. Like a quick welders arc then gone.

Not really.


Just a basic understanding of planetary motion and skill at spatial thinking.

You don't have to sit down and do the math in order to understand how it happens.

If you are seriously interested in toying around with it, pick up Kerbal Space Program.

It's a fun game/simulator.

You should check out the "If the moon was the size of a pixel" thread. There's a lot of space in space.
