Japan also has an enormous national debt, twice as big as ours per capita, and an elderly citizenry that is not being replaced by births, so its future financially and demographically is not good

Because, like the Europeans, the Japanese have relied on us to defend them since the end of WWII freeing them of the need to pay for a real military or invest in any sort of military R&D. Also the United States conducts the vast majority of medical R&D for the world allowing other countries to ride our coat tails and spend their money on themselves.

Countries with somewhat successful single payer systems have two things in common:

1. They have much higher labor participation rates
2. They spend jack shite on the military because we provide their global security.

When America stops providing global security, and everyone gets off their asses and starts contributing to society, we can talk about single payer.

Oh one more thing....

In a single payer system, a 72 year old with congestive heart failure gets pain meds and sent home to die. In America, we dump $100k+ into prolonging their life a few more years.

By having a badass military and very generous welfare system that pays people to be poor, we've foreited our ability to provide free healthcare for all. We are trying to do free healthcare for just children, poor, and elderly, and we can't even pay for that.... running deficits year after year after year. 30% of the entire federal budget goes to pay interest on previously accrued treasury debt from decades of deficits. The utterance of single payer in this country is phantasmagoric horseshite.

We've had single payer in the US for decades. It's called the VA. Do you want to use the VA?

$140 a month implies they do some things in ways we do not
what is the cost for a room in a hospital?
is there a death panel?
how much does an MD make in that country?

Not at all comparable to the United States. Less than half of the population of the United States; Most people are of the same race, which probably makes it easier to narrow down the health issues of the population; overall healthier population; less people who live in poverty. Overall healthcare system is likely set up differently, including structure of medical institutions; different regulations and requirements; different needs of the population. Government and its bureaucracy are structured differently.

I think you get the point.

How many are on disability in Japan?

What portion of healthcare is supplemented by the government?

Their tax brackets are higher than ours. 50% of people in this country don't pay any income tax.

Your post is basically worthless and doesn't tell us anything. Strong work

Let me show you what you just did....
A guy fell and cracked his skull, went to the ED and got a CT scan and paid zero dollars in the United States!!!! Look how good our healthcare is!!!!!!
What I didn't tell you is that guy was homeless living under the bridge and the tax payers of the country paid the bill

Wide ranges in lifestyle choices, wealth, etc. make for huge differences in healthcare costs.

Like white southern rednecks being one of the most expensive demographics in the country. Mainly because of the absurd obesity rates and a culture that still embraces tobacco
