Awesome? Lot of work to upkeep?
They aren't horrible if you get set up good and look at it as a hobby and enjoy it. Kind of like gardening.
1. I do a 10% water change every two weeks (about an hour or so worth of work between mixing salt, and changing water)
2. I test every week, record results, adjust levels of stuff as needed (takes about an hour)
3. Clean the glass every week, change filtration stuff, etc. (About an hour)
4. Feed daily, about 10 minutes.
5. Then I do some major cleaning on stuff about every 6 months, takes a day.
Honestly, the first year is the worst. There is SOOOoooo much to learn, the tank isn't balanced and is going through growing pains (ugly phase, etc), and you are having to get everything set up and learn, etc.
It's pretty easy now after I'm a year and half in.
If anyone decides to do it, do a butt load of research from multiple places. Reef2reef is a good forum to start on for advice.

Very nice. Plenty of times pictures don't do aquariums justice.
I've flirted with saltwater many times but just never pulled the trigger. Stayed into the freshwater for most of my life. Pretty much done with aquariums and now focus on goldfish/koi pond.

So, I got it used and the guy I got it from set it up and made the sump.
Left to right, return dumps in and flows into two socks. Then 80 gallon protein skimmer. Then chaeto chamber with chaetomax light, floss filter, then return pump. There is a tunze auto top off sensor (there is 5 gallon container that sits besides tank for it). 3 kamoer pumps for Calcium, Mag, and Alkalinity. Inkbird wifi dual heater and dual probe for managing temps, and then a adjustable flow return pump.
In/above the tank, 2 AI Prime lights and 2 Nero 3 wavemakers.
ETA, I also have a carbon reactor.
Then I have my whole mix station in the laundry room for making water, etc.

Great! The coral grows in Islamorada (Bud'n Marys) is an awesome project. Some of the indoor grows that I have seen are beyond belief. Can't wait to get mine going.

Absolutely badass.
How many gallons.
I’ve been researching a ton over the year I’m about to dive in the saltwater realm.
I’ve had plenty fresh but never salt.

That’s damn impressive Sir! I had a 75 gal salt a long time ago, but just had aggressive fish (clown trigger, hawk fish, puffer & small live rock….nothing like this though. Freaking awesome!

This is awesome, in the hobby myself. Planet 125 rimless with Trigger sump, will add some pics tomorrow. Just hit the 14 month mark. I loved my Diamond goby, best sand cleaner ever. Sadly, I don’t have a lid and he took a leap of faith, sucked. Now I have a banded goby and while he’s doing a good job, he takes a mouthful of sand and swims to top of the tank and releases it, gets all over my coral and rock. Thanks for sharing!

Cool, would love to see. I have a canopy and ran netting around the inside edges to hopefully save any jumpers. Luckily my goby is chill and just hangs at the bottom munching sand. I've been pretty luckily with good fish.
