Do you agree it's essentially a boutique city at this point, or is heading there?

New Orleans is never going to be on the level of NYC, SF, but i do agree with that boutique city characterization.

Nola will never have a huge economy but will retain enough intrigue to attract its own type of citizen.

too many over-burdened folks from San Francisco, NYC, Chicago, etc. etc. want to live here because it gives them an opportunity at a better more well-rounded seemingly "hipster" life.

Unless you're a business owner, white collar jobs will be the only way people can afford the rising rent and property values of New Orleans.

If you want to be in the best locations, maybe. But there are plenty of decent areas to live where you can buy for $200k. They won't be close to all the fun and cultcha, but they're still in New Orleans.

One huge new hospital was opened last year, and another is set to open in the coming year. Hospitals employ a lot of "white collar" and "white jacket" employees.

it'll be interesting to see how much private investment is spurred by the new hospitals.

where in new orleans can you find a "decent" house for $200k? you were specific in stating new orleans, so i'm assuming you are exluding jefferson parish.

I'm very "pro-New Orleans", but I'm not aware of any areas that I would live that have housing under 300k.

well if he lives in a >$200k house, he most likely just got shot and can't get back to his computer.

Yeah, I make a nice salary for my age & I'm looking for something small sub-1000 sqft with 2 bd + 1-2 ba.

Broadmoor, Leonidas, Carrolton, Mid-City, Irish Channel, & Lower Garden are all $300k+ for even the smaller properties. Parts of Gentilly & Bywater/St Claude are about the only spots you're seeing under $300k, and Bywater/St Claude still aren't great areas.

I got into the 70115 at 325k.

Come at me bro

Accordingly, I overpaid by 100k so your experience may differ.
