You should learn the history of deaf people. Go find an interpreter and talk to a 60 year old deaf person about their life.
How they were forced by the government for decades to go to “deaf” schools where they were separated and ostracized from their families and then the rampant sexual abuse that occurred in numerous states including La that was covered up and is still not really known in the public because these people can’t speak to you without help.
It’s disturbing and years later even after the Disabilities Act, that finally allowed for these accommodations for them, there is still rampant abuse in the community because the victim many times becomes the victimizer.
To your point, the IPhone is probably a deaf persons most important belonging.
But making fun of public accommodations like this isn’t funny and just seems odd. Why pile on deaf people?

It’s not great
It just needs to be good enough. Particularly in light of speeches being released in print before they're given, transcripts that are posted on the new fangled thing called the Internet minutes after a speech is given, etc.
Do you want another cop walking in the neighborhood three days a week on the mid shift, or do you want what is essentially an unnecessary service that gets paid for? There is no such thing as a free lunch, someone always pays for everything, at the cost of something else.
Since you brought a church into it, would you rather fix one kid's cleft palate a day in Central America, or pay for a signer for a press conference that even deaf people don't care about? Great that your church caters to that pop, but it's not the same as saying every church should have to spend the money to do it.

It’s distracting and has outlived its usefulness.
I never watched a press conference and thought "frick that person doing sign language"

But I have heard the deaf community are some entitled folk. In general, they demand shite that isn't always practical and evidently its an insult to them if someone has to write something down for them to read because they think everyone should know sign language or someone who does know it should always be available to them.
