Sidewalk still closed at Stabs???

Near my neighborhood there is a new steakhouse under construction - Stabs. It is going into the old bank building near the Backpacker, but it is taking forever.
Just how long can a public sidewalk be closed for private business construction? I assume that it is permitted with the city but this has been months and there is no sign of them completing that stage anytime soon. It would seem to me that the best way to have done it would be to only close and demo the sidewalk right before you're ready to pour the new one... why are they allowed to demo and then just let it sit for months (several now) why they work on other parts of the project?
I'll say this- for as long as it is taking to build that place, it better be the best damned steakhouse in this side of the Mississippi.

Sounds like a utility/civil issue so no clue, but that project was a little more involved than a grass-root or remodel so it was gonna take a while no matter what.

Do you really use the sidewalk on Jefferson that much?

Because if you don't demo, heavy trucks and the constant drive will break up the concrete causing problems in the road which would end up in a lawsuit to the city.
And you can't demo then re-pour immediately for the same reason because the heavy vehicles and constant vibrations will crack the new concrete once it is cured.

Seriously not a good street to jog on due to all the CO (carbon monoxide). Whenever I go to New Orleans and drive down St. Charles and Carrolton, I just laugh at all the healthy people breathing in all the CO

Just seems like a strange thing to get upset about, it's just a sidewalk

Well, I usually jog at night and I don't always take my car to go to those stores - it's only a mile round trip to walk and grab some groceries so I'd rather walk. However, that has been hampered for several months now because it seems like they're dragging their feet.
I've worked construction before (never dealt with the permit/business end of the projects) and I just don't see it taking as long as they have been.

No idea why it's taking so long but I have been to the one in Central and it's top notch. I'd put it on par with Sullivan's. It's just a pain in the arse to get to

Probably he lives in the Warwick apartments and uses the sidewalk to walk down to the Walgreens.
