Not at all what i meant, but a dog of that breed will require alot of interaction to keep it from becoming destructive from boredom. Responsible dog ownership is a commitment.

Why do I keep seeing this? Dogs love it outside. Most dogs need a place to run and will be much happier outside.

I grew up with outside dogs and I don’t understand people that get dogs just to keep them inside. I would assume they grew up with inside dogs.

If he has the space he shouldn’t feel bad for keeping it outside. Having said that, if that things starts to bark, bring it in.

Not all dogs are good fits to have run of the house. If you read up on energetic breeds like huskies, border collies, etc, they have far too much energy and destructive tendencies. I think you're making the mistake of assuming a dog is just a dog. I'm asking the questions I am and being selective for a reason.

Seems like it would be incredibly cruel to not allow a husky to have access to some a/c or a shaded, fanned area during the day during the hot summer months.

I really think we're assigning human wants and thought processes to dogs here. I've already addressed the shade thing. We have it. High noon, we just don't have a lot. That is my concern. AC or a fan, again, is potentially doable, but not all of the time. And both people and animals survived long before the convenience of either.

My brother in law had a husky...in AZ. She was kept inside during the day.

So not confined or crated? I'd hate to see the inside of the house and furniture.

Of course....neighbors will file complaints if they see you have an outdoors only dog with no adequate shelter in the summer.

I honestly wish that were true. We have a woman with a big property that backs up to the rear of mine who keeps two pit mixes outside in a 10x6 cage pretty much all the time. They've gotten loose twice and I've called animal control about them both times. They go out and talk to her and she swears she's getting the little cage fixed. But guess what....they can't even issue a citation to her without me literally appearing in court to make the complaint against her. Their living conditions are terrible, but because they have food and water (and I really don't even know if they check for that) and are under a single tree, it's all good. We used to pass by one house in a very upscale county between us and my in-laws and they kept a husky chained to a tree in their FRONT YARD right ON THE ROAD. I called animal control in that county several times about it. Same deal. They feed it, they water it, it isn't "loose". It's fine. I wish people cared as much as you think they do, but you'd be surprised how few really give a shite if it isn't in their line of sight.

Sounds like this breed is just not a good fit for you.

And I think I agree with you, which is why I came to ask about them.

I didn't say they have to be exclusively inside but from what you said earlier you were not allowing it inside. From your responses it sounds like you're actually a good dog owner and are concerned with getting a good fit for your situation.

I didn't read anyone's responses.

I have a 9 year old female Siberian husky. Got her at 6 weeks. She was extremely stubborn as a puppy, but settled as she got older. She sheds 24/7, so proare to invest in a good vacuum cleaner and enjoy it on your clothes.

They are fairly independent, but she's been the most chill, relaxed dog I've ever had. She doesn't bark, jump on me, etc. she loves her walks, but also likes to chill and do her own thing. I'll miss her when she's gone.

Oh, and she stays inside 24/7. If you plan to leave a husky outside in the south, frick you.

And I fully understand that. I am trying to do my due diligence and talk myself out of it. Advice from others with experience with the breed helps.

Again, understood. This isn't my first rodeo. I kept an american bulldog happy and healthy for 16 years (if you're not familiar, that's OLD as shite for that breed). I would consider myself pretty responsible, which is why I'm not rushing out to buy the pup, even though it's something I've always wanted. If I can't give it what it needs, I won't get it. That simple.

Woud you want to stand around in the summer Georgia heat in ‘moderate amounts of shade’ while wearing a fur coat?

I don’t know if a husky is right for your situation, but living in south Louisiana is not a reason for not getting it. As long as they have access to shade and A/C they’re fine. Their coat regulates their body temperature so it cools them off. As usual people don’t know what they’re talking about

This is the big reason for not keeping them inside. It's why our last wasn't allowed in (his hair was like porcupine needles and stuck into everything). I know they have two times per year where they are really bad. Outside of that, from what I've gathered, it's pretty normal as compared to other dogs.

Like most dogs, they do blow their coats 2x a year, but trust me when I say Huskies shed more than other dogs. Period. You can brush and brush and keep getting hair off. It's different than say a lab's hair that tends to fall. Husky type hair floats lol. You'll find it everywhere.

Beautiful dogs, but they def need exercise and mental stimulation. They are also very smart and vocal. They'll talk to you.

During the summer time, DO NOT SHAVE THEM. Shaving them makes them hotter. Just take them to a professional groomer who can brush out their undercoat so the coat can vent properly.

We have 2 boxers which are a hilarious breed! 16 years with any breed is a long arse time. Hope we can get the most out of our 2!

I don’t know if Siberian Huskies lived in Georgia though.

I see people post that Huskies do fine in hot weather. I haven’t researched it of course, Bc this is the OT and I can’t be bothered. But it seems impossible that a heavy fur coat could be anything but miserable in the humid south.

I did what my wife would allow. But make no mistake, we loved that dog. If I got home and it was pouring rain out, I'd go trudge through the wet and mud, get him and carry him into the garage where I kept a bed and heater for him and let him get dry and warm. If we get another dog, I expect to bring him in some. He/she won't be tossed out and forgotten.

Like 80-90% of animals in the state? Sure, why not. Jeez.

Not all animals are the same. You have to realize this. Maybe somehow a heavy fur coat keeps the dog cool. Even In that case he should still have shade.

My wife's family actually had a number of boxers over the years. All they ever had. Guess what my wife really wants.....

Yeah, I do. But I can honestly tell you, seeing outdoor only dogs of all sorts of breeds is not anything uncommon where we are. I don't think it's much different in most places.

It does, and I do.
