From googling, it looks like plenty people have huskies in hot weather, but there’s no magical cooling system from the thick fur. They need plenty shade at least.

Just from that link:

quote:

Whatever you do keep the Husky’s coat and do not shave them! The hairy coat, although thick, actually insulates the animal from direct heat. If you remove it your dog will not be able to regulate its own temperature and become very sensitive to the warmth of the sun.

But there is more info on this if you want to look into it further.

I mean, I could crate it. I just hate that. It seems cruel to me, but it appears that's what people that know more than I suggest. What about a garage? Floor is cool, and I have a big arse fan in there.

Did you keep yours as an indoor dog when you were around or primarily outdoors?

I took him running in the morning before school. Then he stayed outside in a fenced yard with my roommates 2 black Labs until I came back.

By the end of the day- he was very relaxed.

Grew up with a Siberian Husky outside of Chicago. Good temperment, howled instead of barked (good to telling the other neighborhood kids we had a wolf).

In the summer we wouldn’t use A/C much so we would just have some box fans on the floor. She loved laying in front of it .... so, maybe consider having a box fan running on the patio? Eventually she started to sleep in my room since I had a box fan and my parents had a ceiling fan. I had to run the fan no matter what the temperature just because the dog loved it so much - 25 years later I still like the air flow to sleep.

She’ll dig out of boredom so you may need a second dog if you’re leaving her outside most of the time. We couldn’t board ours because boarding houses at the time were outdoor cages and she would try to dig her way out (one time cutting her nose and needing stitches). So, maybe Camp Bow Wow or bust in this one.

If she gets out, you’re not going to find her sniffing through the next door neighbors bushes - she’s going to test just how far and how fast she can run.

Siberia.

Georgia.

No.

And your wife's attitude about dogs in house means outdoors with no shade in fenced in yard.

You need to involve wife in dogs issue. No husky.

Training must be more than you contemplated. Its a work dog.

No.

Huskies are very smart and need semi-constant mental stimulation...please for the love of god do not assume you can crate it during the day. And keeping him outside in the Georgia summer is basically torture.

Honestly, this sounds like a terrible choice for your situation. Please reconsider. Rescues and pounds are overrun with good dogs that weren’t good fits for their living situations.
