This happened back in January, what ever happened to the cop?

Edit: never mind

Police officers should be forced to attempt non lethal force before escalating when confronted with an animal situation. shite is out of hand randomly shooting dogs and when discharging in a community like this incidents will happen

They could just be like the rest of us and go "oh, a family dog, I might get bit, or maybe not, guess we'll see. I'll likely be alright either way because I'm a fully grown adult."

Grown arse men afraid of family pets, it's embarrassing.

Reading story, I first thought, well it's a German shepherd, those can be aggressive if they thought their owner was getting attacked.

And I guess it's possible in that situation, but an animal hearing board voted unanimously to say the dog wasn't aggressive and should go back to the family.

This is a sad case where trash balls were gonna trash, but no one deserved getting killed for being a trash ball here.

This. Not to mention that once an officer fires his weapon he/she is usually immediately put on leave while an investigation takes place. At the very least this cat should've been taken off the streets just solely based on the fact that he was reckless with his firearm. Stories like this piss me the frick off. If Joe Citizen does this same shite we'd be sitting in jail for a long time.

Didn't realize this story happened months ago. Very surprising the jury decided not to indict and he was allowed to return to his job?

Criminal charges aside, why don't police departments view this acts as those of someone unfit for duty? I couldn't imagine screwing up this badly on my job and being able to continue as if nothing had happened.

It's simple actually. DA's can't prosecute cases without the help of the popo. Once you start holding police accountable for their behavior, the popo arent nearly as willing to cooperate.

As a result its nearly impossible to prosecute police officers short of damning videos- even then its not likely to happen.

Police have de facto immunity from prosecution.

This is why all police officers get lumped together. They always protect their own.

why can't they just taser the dogs if they are so scared of them?
They could back up and stay on the other side of the fence and tell them to restrain their dog or they will shoot it as well.

Dogs aren't that scary.

Money. It's expensive to train a police officer. It's not always as simple as firing someone when you have that kind of money wrapped up in a single employee and lack the ability to hire an applicant.

The department failed this guy. They gave him a gun, taught him to shoot to kill if he is afraid for his life, and sent him out there. We simply can't afford to train these guys properly.

What's even scarier is the guys running around thinking they are special operators because they went to a fricking Chris Costa class. It's very unnerving to know we have cops with the ability shoot well but lack the critical decision making skills to know when to shoot.

I know a lot of black cops, many of whom don't like dogs and/or are afraid of dogs.

It's reckless Sarge. Imagine if your family member was shot in their own front yard and the reason you get from your local department is the cop was trying to shoot the dog but slipped and shot your mom or wife or sister or brother or whatever.

How much more expensive are the million dollar civil suits to the tax paying public?
