Shreveport gets its municipal water from Cross Lake. When I moved here, it was very good, then several years ago it developed a muddy taste one summer.

The city at first denied there was anything amiss, but the terrible taste became undeniable. They then admitted it was caused by an algae outbreak that imparts an "earthy" taste or odor to the water. This became a regular, seasonal occurrence, with water tasting like dirt throughout most warm weather months. Now it seems the algae can pop up even in winter.

In 2024, Cross Lake also had high levels of manganese after heavy rains. The treatment plant was not made to handle it, so the tap water was brown as lake water at times. This has pretty much resolved with time, but it's always something with the damned water for the last decade or so.

Daggum, I read that post 4 times and never caught that. Grew up in Shreveport. Water never tasted like that when I lived there. Of course, it was so long ago it might have been a different chemical formula.

You should go toward Yuma AZ, El Paso TX and that area.. All water tastes like dirt. In fact any water from the American SW sucks.

Good point. The water in Midland Texas tastes like a saltwater/turpentine boilermaker.

Hmm. The more you know. Thanks.

I knew if there was such a thing it wasn't under Caddo Parish.

Spot on from an inside source I have that works for the water department. 2 summers ago when it got real bad, it finally came out they were waiting on a part that I'm not sure ever was ever able to be retrofitted/installed or even arrived.

Growing up in Bossier, I've always hated Shreveport water. it's crazy how different they taste. Shreveport's has gotten even worse lately though. I normally can drink the tea but the other day even the tea was disgusting.
