3 months post shoulder surgery, I had everything but the dislocated shoulder. Being in that damn sling was the worst part for me. I loathe that thing. Follow the advice that's been given so far. Do your PT try to make sure they get hands on. That was a big thing that helped me. Massaging the muscles and articulating and working them by hand and not just having you ride the bike and do a few resistance exercises made mine feel much better. Also I don't really know what it's really called but they used the term STORS unit, to help break up the scar tissue internally was a Godsend. I think it used pinpoint electromagnetic pulses maybe. Hurt like hell but made my shoulder felt so much better after each session.
Just mentally prepare yourself for the long haul, it's a long long recovery. At 3 months post I feel fairly good but still have some pain and know I've got a ways to go.

I had 3 shoulder surgeries in a year. Bicep tenodesis, clavicle shaved, rotator cuff repair, and a wash out from septic arthritis infection. Ice, ice, ice and dedication to PT. There is no easy recovery just keep inflammation down and don’t let up on PT. Good luck.

As a PT I will tell you this is going to take a while. Listen to the doctor and stay in your brace other than when showering until they tell you otherwise. Do not try to move independently at all. The tissues they repaired take weeks to heal so do not risk re-injuring what they did. Sleep is gonna be hard to come by right now but get what you can when you can. And take pain meds right now if it does help you sleep at all. What kind of surgery did you have exactly? Labrum and biceps repair?

I had a mountain bike accident 6 years ago. I went to an Ortho shortly after and was diagnosed with a separated AC joint. Given a cortisone shot and sent on my way. Over the next 5 years, I had daily pain, trouble sleeping, loss of motion, but just dealt with it. Last year, I finally went to do an MRI and it revealed a SLAP tear. The top shoulder surgeon here in town recommended doing a biceps tenodesis. I am pretty active, play a lot of golf, fly fish, exercise. Tenodesis was recommended as a higher likelihood of success compared to labral repair.

When surgeon went in for surgery, they discovered an anterior tear in my labrum as well and did an Bankert repair for the lesion. Apparently this issue was causing shoulder dislocation that I wasn’t fully aware of.

So, I had a tenodesis and bankert repair. My post operative meeting is tomorrow afternoon. Presumably to lay out PT recovery plan. Hopefully I will also obtain additional pain meds as the pain during the day is rough. They told me that I would return to full motion in 3/5 months. I’m 34. Previous responses here definitely don’t paint a great picture for fast recovery, lol
