Happening EVERYWHERE. Somehow the ghetto has infinite ability to spread. It’s helped along by the Democrat party that literally wants to inject Section 8 into every nice middle class neighborhood.

It was nice 30 years ago, but that part of Ridgeland has been on the decline for a loooooong time now. Everybody goes to Dogwood in Flowood to shop now, and has for quite some time.

Apartments ruined the area. Left along time ago after my car was broken into about the seventh time.

Wasn't Northpark the nice mall in the day?

Metrocenter is where you had to watch

That was a nice mall, once upon a time.
Certainly better than metro.

Grew up in Madison and remember that area well. I distinctly remember the days of Northpark, the movie theater, and DZ: discovery zone. I also remember a restaurant near by you could play toothpicks through a straw into the ceiling tiles.

Eta: moved to Birmingham in 97 and didn’t go back to that area much. It’s been at least 10 years.

I'm old enough to remember the Jackson Mall being the dangerous mall before Metro center went downhill.

Well, I remember when Jackson Mall was THE Mall. We would come from our small town to Jackson to eat at the Green Derby on Ellis Ave then go to Westland Plaza and sometimes, if we were lucky, Jackson Mall. When MetroCenter opened, we didn’t go there for a while bc my mom and aunt thought it was too big and us kids would get abducted.

Edit: Green, not Brown Derby - this ain’t Hollywood!

Madison is about 5-6 miles away. This is a town called Ridgeland, right across the street from Jackson

We are seeing a phenomenon where the urban demo spills over the city line into the formerly safe suburbs

Yes, yes, Green Derby, I realized my error, edited, then saw your post.

I’m a little punchy, been up since 5.

I went there maybe three times as a wee tot -- it was only for when special relatives visited

this was already going downhill by the time I can remember, but it wasn't quite yet the mogadishu it is today

It was fine the times I remember shopping there into the mid 80's. My dad would get his shoes repaired at a store in that mall.

Metrocenter was great because you could shop and then walk over and see a movie. It also had Diamond Jim's and a big food court.
