Like some posters have deduced, it's time to buckle up. Oil prices are about to shoot through the roof!

The hubris of these executives to declare things have changed permanently. Sounds eerily familiar to the dot com stock bubble in 1999-2000.

ITT people confuse sound bites designed to send a particular message to investors with actual concrete predictions about the future.

quote:

"We have to have projects that are resilient in a world where oil has peaked," Mr. van Beurden told reporters on a conference call discussing the company's second-quarter financial results. "When it will happen we don't know, but that it will happen we are certain."

quote:

"We are getting fit for the 40s," Mr. van Beurden said, referring to a world in which oil prices are below $50 a barrel.

Really the actual message is just "we want our costs to be cheaper, so please invest in our stock regardless of the oil price."

I have a self driving car and it works great in rainy conditions. No snow in here so cannot speak to that but works great in rain.

This is good news for consumers who were gouged for years by artificially high oil prices.
...which will greatly benefit those consumers who no longer have jobs.

I am old enough to remember the same kooks, who are global warming shills now, saying we would run out of oil in "30 years" in the 70's.

I remember Jimmy Carter giving an address where he wore a sweater to show how everybody was going to have to get by with less heat in the winter.

Those people just lie and move on to the next manufactured crisis.

Will be impossible. Sit in the passenger seat and drink up. They will have to find something else to make revenue off of and they will.

I read that you can currently because there's a manual override. And my truck nuts and boat are going to look weird behind the self driving Prius.

Europe is beginning the transition over to all electric vehicles.....maybe Shell is talking like this in order to stall said transition.

And in the 80s, it was 30-50 years. I remember these dire predictions that were completely wrong. People get future predictions so wrong it's almost a certainty that whatever is predicted the actual result will be a complete 180. My personal favorite was during the 1950s how automation would lead to a 20 hour work week by the 1980s. Needless to say our work week actually increased.
