There is a lot of retail in the St. George footprint, and if you got into the weeds of it I surmise you would find a substantial portion of the sales tax St. George proponents claim as produced by residents of the new city are based on purchases by residents of the city proper and other jurisdictions entirely.

That is part of the inherent dishonesty of the movement that was so off putting for me.

Do you think that percentage is more than the percentage of St. George residents who purchase things in the city?

I don't think you want to head down that rabbit hole. It's kind of dumb anyway.

I understand that, but you miss the point. St. George proponents overstate the burden they carry for city fire and city pd when they don't acknowledge that a sizable portion of the sales tax collected in St. George is paid by Baton Rouge residents, even the ones from North BR that are so reviled on this message board.

For all this talk of being a tax colony you never see anyone get in the weeds and attempt to tie the tax dollar back to the resident.

Car sales are tied to the resident
Building materials are tied to the job site
Internet sales are tied to the location of delivery

Everything else sold retail is tied to point of sale I believe

My point is that the retailers grabbed by BR are probably getting a bigger chunk of money from St george as St George retailers are getting from Br.

Kip grabbed as many of the big retailers as he could last time around in order to frick St George.

Grabbed by the city in the sense that they all requested annexation because of the uncertainty with the new city. Can supporters of this city be honest about anything?

Properties owned by out of state companies went with the existing government structure. Shocking

They must have been frightened by all the new taxes those fiscal conservatives in St George were planning for them!

Lawyers and advisors instructed them that there was zero downside to sticking with the city. They had no fear of retribution from a new city. Easy decision

The rub is some elected to be annexed and some did not. All of the mall didn’t ask to join BR.

There are also plenty of commercial properties who didn’t ask to join BR.

You are acting it was some kind of no brainer for all these commercial properties to join the city when there wasn’t because all did not join.
