I'm questioning because I want to know as much as I can...not because I want to flaunt that I'm in military.
Then read a manual on Army's decorum instead of coming to TD to ask "service members"
Different services have different customs and traditions when it comes to decorum

I have never hated saluting. Love returning the custom.

not sure what all of the downvotes are for and I have not read the 5 pages
no, I do not salute the flag as a veteran and unless I was in uniform I would not salute when I was active duty. but if in uniform, yep I'd salute, from what I understand if in uniform you must salute.

Same.
This year, when doing the national anthem at LSU baseball games, they added "all veterans are encouraged to render a hand salute". The first time I heard that it made me laugh. My buddy (active duty) was home and went to a game w/ me... when he heard that he said "what?!".
I think it was a shock to most veterans/AD that were used to "you don't salute when not in uniform". We don't like rule changes.
FTR I never saluted at any games... and I never will. Standing at attention w/ hand over heart is good for me.

This is what immediately comes to mind when I see the words: Terd Ferguson.

at Pearl Harbor...one week out of the year we had surface ships from several different countries come in. They would play the anthem of every different country that was represented at morning colors and if you got caught outside you could be saluting for 10-15 minutes.
you could tell who was subs and who was surface because all the submariners (enlisted and officer) would be literally running to the nearest building 7:59.

Met an ASW guy who spent his career in P-3's. His first comment to me after finding out I was a bubblehead, "Man, we couldn't find you guys until you WANTED us to find you"
Damn straight...
Had a P-3 buzz us while we were surfaced (Steel Beach) outside Andros. Pretty sure the pilot has a framed picture of our bare assed mooning as they flew by.
I'm a "stand at attention, hand over heart" guy today and always will be

No and neither do I put my hand over my heart. I stand at attention as the rule book says.

I've done training ops w/ P-3's and surface ships... we were told to start slamming deck plates and banging on the hull with wrenches.
They still couldn't find us.
