Selling vehicle to out of state buyer

Seller's home - Louisiana
Payment has been received. There is no lien against the vehicle.
Other than bill of sale and signatures on title (title is in hand), what else is needed for seller to sell vehicle to out of state buyer (Texas)?
Is a notary required? Does seller have to notify LA OMV?
Insurance for vehicle has already been canceled by seller.

Prepare your anus. You have to cancel the registration. If not, LA looks at it as driving uninsured. That whole shitshow with the DMV charging people fines was in large part to these type of transactions. It happened to me when I traded my LA registered vehicle in to a dealer in GA.

That’s all I ever did for MS sale to AL buyer and again for LA buyer. Never had a TX buyer though.

So, I guess the wire transfer went okay.
Also, you're probably going to get a nastygram from the OMV that's going to cost you about $200 bucks to erase because you canceled the insurance before the bill of sale/transfer of title.

No issues whatsoever.

Wait, wut??? Is payment alone proof that vehicle was sold on the same day that insurance was cancelled?

I’m not really sure what you are talking about.
How do you cancel a registration?
I sold a car to someone in Alabama.
- They signed the title
- Signed a bill of sale (which isn’t actually necessary in AL)
- I took the license plate
After that I am at fault for nothing. It’s their responsibility to register and get a license plate
There is also a website on the DMV to cancel your license plate LINK
I did it but I don’t think it’s neccessary

I didn't realize that. Does this require a trip up to the DMV?
If so, what do I need to bring with me?

If you have a bill of sale notarized and signed for the date you cancelled you should be good. The asshats at the DMV sent out over a million letters a few years ago for these types of situations. In some cases, they suspended licenses for unpaid fines.

I’m still not even sure what this means. Registration isn’t insurance. And are you talking about the driver or the seller?

Probably not. Get online and cancel that registration five minutes ago. Maybe they won't pop you, but insurance cancellations are reported every day, so if a day passes, you're going to show up in their system as driving without insurance and they can pop you if they need cash.

Do you have anything to back this up. Sounds like BS

In LA the state requires you to have insurance. If you don’t turn in plates and cancel registration, the DMV treats it as if you still own the vehicle until it is registered in another state. They cross reference and get a notification as soon as you cancel insurance. Trust me on this, I had to deal with this bs. I’m sure you can find the thread on here about the damn letters.

It’s not BS. If the vehicle registration is good through next year and you cancel your insurance, how would the state know you’re not driving uninsured. Google it man shite is no joke.

See the poster above. Motherfricker, didn't I tell you to shut your fricking manpleaser in the frozen pipes thread when you didn't know what you were talking about but were running your cockholster anyway?

Negative.
That whole thing was to fund a 50% pay raise for state troopers when the state of Louisiana is suppose to be broke

A. Louisiana law requires all motor vehicles registered in this state to maintain liability insurance. To avoid receiving a cancellation notice, you must either surrender the vehicle license plate or submit a non-use statement before your insurance is cancelled or terminated. If you receive a cancellation notice, and the vehicle is inoperable, then you can surrender the license plate within 10 days of the date of notice to avoid a fee. To cancel your plate you can surrender it to any Motor Vehicle Office or you can utilize the Cancel Plate link on our home page. You can also mail the license plate to the address below. The license plate must be destroyed once it is cancelled. To submit a vehicle statement of non-use on our website and mail it to the address below or bring it to any Office of Motor Vehicles to have it updated. The non-use statement must be submitted to OMV AND have a begin date prior to date insurance is cancelled.
