I see a lot of posts from guys who are locked into the corporate ideal. Security of life. You need them, they do not need you.

Don't sell yourselves short. What you need is confidence and recognition of what you are great at.

Reading this, you're great at anything your company gives you the tools to do. What about those tools? Big deal. Tools are tools. Training is training. Motivation is the key.

I have done the consulting thing on the side and have trepidation about going full time. I would have to see myself double to tripling my current income in three years and I’m not seeing that happening at this point in my career.

The basic rule of thumb before going full time is you need a full 6 months to 1 year salary in reserve with at least three hard/firm clients before even thinking about making the jump. There is more preparation involved than just that but that keeps many people from pursuing it and rightfully so.

When I see consultant I think "can't find a full time job" until proven otherwise. Plenty of exceptions, to that, but lots of folks slap it on their resume to avoid revealing they're out of work. Show me an active professional license and/or clients willing to recommend you to others and we'll talk.

I started my career managing Sprint pagers in the early 90's. Led to a Canadian company refurbishing wireless tech. Sold refurbs internationally. Learned to sell... then moved to managing PBM relationships to state government contracts. Learned healthcare and PBM like the back of my hand. Currently do nothing but pick companies begging for healthcare and tax mitigation solutions.

You see, what you learn can and will lead to independence. Point is, my friends, don't sit at a desk and wait for direction or a paycheck. Learn and tell yourselves that paycheck should not be their call.

Nah cuz. Real consultants get paid the big bucks for their connections, not for their hard work

Why do I have the feeling you're going to start trying to sell us knives by the end of this thread?

The end of this thread was the OP. I know there are guys here selling widgets or even cleaning toilets who know they have hit their zenith. Sell it and clean it under you LLC.

OP definitely looking for "team members" to become "self reliant" and their "own boss".

Its not a pyramid scheme it's "networking" and "building your brand"

If anyone, including you, expects me to offer you sweet smelling wax or mascara, they're missing the point.

I resigned from my management consulting firm in October and have since started working for myself.

One thing that helped me make the jump was I had 3 clients asking for work as soon as I was available. I now can make more working 50% as much as I used to and billing clients half of what most firms do.

Your clients see what you saw. The rest was up to you and you delivered. None of us know what you do or what they needed and that's precisely our point.
