Why would anyone involved with this say anything publicly counter to that?
Did we not hear the same thing with Occupy Wall Street initially?
Then later on, we heard there were assaults, rapes, rampant drug use, etc.
No, I am not saying it is the same situation, but there is zero reason why anyone should expect to hear accurate information.
We saw the same thing with the protests.
There is a great picture of a reporter stating that everything is peaceful while a building burns down behind him.
When every aspect of what we hear is politicized, and people have their own significant biases, how can you take anything as fact?

Would you be as big an advocate if a bunch of Ultra Conservative people took over an area in a city and held a "Woke Wooodstock" replete with weapons and checkpoints?

That's not true at all.
Once again, what we know is there's a video out there of him beating up a tagger + another one with him getting into a confrontation with someone else. I don't understand why they haven't ejected him yet & he should be arrested & charged for assault based on the video as there is nothing that is actually autonomous about CHAZ.
Though I imagine the police won't want to touch him in fear that it sets off the mob again, which is a shame and shows the problem with how the far left is viewing things.

You speak of being moderate/middle ground, but you only accept reports that make this situation look good.
This is where you lose people.
You state that you switch to an independent and the current Democratic Party is losing their mind, but you can’t let them go. You still feel that you should support/defend certain actions/activities.
That is expected though. Everyone who ties themselves to an ideology has the same issue. I do too.
You need to recognize that fact though.
