In all seriousness, he's a piece of shite and someone should have stopped him. We had someone die two weeks ago from another skier plowing into him.

People forget how fine the line between fun controlled skiing and death really is.

She had just moved here from Arkansas and it was her second day on the mountain. It was a mild concussion and whiplash. Nothing too serious

We have 1-2 feet of snow coming through the weekend. Only A-Bay and Loveland are currently open I believe, but the backcountry is going to be sooooo fricking awesome. Avy danger is low right now. If you want to go into RMNP with me and a few buddies let me know. The plan is Dragontail Couloir one day, and Hidden Valley the other

I'm so hard right now

More snow coming this weekend! We went hard in rocky mountain national park last weekend. If we stay around hidden valley you can get away with no avy gear or training and it would be good experience skinning up the mountain on the AT setup

ETA - it is peak couloir season in RMNP but some of them require crampons and an ice ax for the ascent. I plan on taking out a few this spring

I'm in. Bout to go snag some 4frnt CRJs w markers and skins for 260 in Kremmling.

188s and 118 underfoot. Lotta ski but it's finally an AT setup I like and for the right price. And I'm the best fricking skier on the mountain anyways.

Let's link up for sure. bphodges at gmail. I'm down for mellow and just some good skinning. Skiing ain't done yet.

Canyons is some good skiing. Had an epic late afternoon there in late February. Snow was not forecasted at all and they got 8" on a Wednesday. Nobody was there. Hiked to the top off 990 lift at end of the day and made some powder turns to the bottom at 3:50.

I'm having a crisis about next seasons passes and where lll be. Tempted to move to Big Sky for the winter.

But if I had to bet my lineup will be.
Comped steamboat pass by winter work or summer bonus
Epic local
Mountain collective

Butte and Telluride are on the need to do list for me. Wolf Creek stole my Crested Butte plans this March.

This would have been the year to do Tahoe. Hopefully they get similar results next season but I doubt it. Park City will be bad arse though. If you have never been to Vail definitely go there when you do the summit county trip. I actually cancelled my epic for next year. I'm going to get the Rocky Mountain super pass plus and mountain collective passes to change it up some and do some traveling to pow chase

Kicking myself for not making it to Tahoe this season.

La Niña is supposed to bring the PNW big snow next year I read. Who knows though.

I can't complain about my powder days this year. Timed my out of summit trips perfectly for where I went.

Question for the ski pros in this thread.

I'm planning a trip in the middle of December.
Has anyone ever taken a ski trip to Solitude in Utah? Seems like it's pretty nice. Reasonably priced and looks like some nice areas to ski.

I was leaning toward booking at Grand Summit in the Canyons because they have "discounted" rates right now. But I wanted to try and get some info on Solitude first. Just didn't know which would be a better option.

TIA!

I would avoid ski trips before Christmas at all costs.

Snow is very unpredictable. Might not be much. Particularly in Utah. Even the big resorts with lots of snowmaking capabilities may be only 50% open.

I plan on doing park city/canyons next year but prob in January-March

Yea that was an initial concern I had.

This would be the second time ever going skiing, went after Christmas one year to Deer Valley and had barely any snow fall.

That makes me nervous now haha

Solitude was the best day of skiing in my entire life. but it's b/c I was skiing in fresh powder up to my knees, and it snowed slow and steady all day long.

It's not a huge mountain, and most of the people there looked like local snowboarders. But it's quiet, secluded, and not difficult at all (may be good or bad for you). The runs are beautiful in that it seems like they just cut them into the forest. These are not giant, wide runs. More of a carving mountain than a speed one.

Base camp is very plain. Nothing special or luxurious about it. You'll have to drive into SLC or Sandy to really do anything other than ski. All in all though, I loved it, and would like to go back.

Great info, appreciate it!

Where do you stay while you were there? And what time of the year did you go?
