Batman and Batman Returns were both really big during one of the first Christmases I really remember. My little brother and I got several of these toys.
And I wanna say one of us eventually ended up with the Ninja Turtle boxing thing at the top of the page for a birthday or something.

I think part of the reason is the magic just isn't there for kids anymore. Like for us Christmas season started after Thanksgiving, it was special, one month we looked forward to all year that our calendar revolved around. Now Christmas starts bombarding them 2-3 months ahead of time if not more and just becomes like another everyday thing. I mean even during October stores seem to have Christmas decor slowly creeping in around the Halloween stuff.
I never thought of it like that, but this is spot on. Our local lowes had Christmas stuff up before Halloween.
My kids have never seen anything like the Wish Book, and that's sad. They won't have memories like that - dreaming like kids used to do. I will go further and blame the current age of cell phones, etc.

The crappy thing is there seems to be a trend of stores trying to bring back like the simplicity of Christmas and making it more warm and magical again with their advertising and whatnot but again when they start with the decorations and telling you start you're shopping now with special preseason sales and stuff before Halloween it just seems like the Late November/December ads they run trying to bring it back to the nostalgia we all love seem try to hard and forced.
And don't even get me started with how early streaming services and tv channels start showing Christmas specials now

Great find. I had the 49ers varsity jacket and hat combo.

At the ancient age of 62, the Wishbooks of my youth didn't include video game sections, as they were not yet available. However, my brothers and I (there were 3 of us) viewed the day that catalog hit our mailbox as one of the best days of each year. At that point, it was okay to begin wishing and asking.
And, because of there being three of us, Mom didn't have time to look through the book for random circled items while trying to remember who used which color. We'd get pieces of paper and provide a list that looked like this:
Page 258; Item 1, Panasonic 8 Track Tape Player, $74.99

My dad called/drove all over metro Atlanta to find a Toys-R-Us that had an Optimus Prime one year.
He would probably shite a brick seeing folks using their phone to buy things, and specifying the day they want it delivered.

that sega genesis was pretty expensive. must've been why mom and dad cut me off at the Nintendo

When I was an adolescent, any new Sears Catalog was a “wish” book.

What the hell kind of extra bells and whistles could the $169 Walkman have to justify not getting a <$50 one?

The only difference I can tell right off is the $169 one looks like it has a radio dial.
