Sea Explorer Scout

When I was 5 years old, one of my older cousins died at age 16. On the corner of his headstone is a mark "Sea Explorer Scout". This would have been in the 60's or early 70's. You know anyone that participated in that as a kid? He was from Harahan, that's why I am asking here. I was in cub scouts/boy scouts when I was little, but had never heard of "Sea Scouts" until now.

Bogalusa had adventurer crew post 313 and we canoed. Not surprised there are other water themed scouts.

It is still in existence today……go to seascout.org to check it out.
Basically Boy Scouts but water-based. Teaching boating and whatnot. Sounds like it would be fun to me!

There was a division of the BSA called the Explorer Scouts. Some were Sea Scouts, some were Law Enforcement Scouts, etc. I was a General Interest Scout for about 5 or 6 years.
Camping, canoeing in Canada. hiking in Arkansas, biking in Oregon - all kinds of activities. High school age, co-ed at a time when schools were sex-segregated. Great times.
