I guess they were worried the kid might intentionally drop the Legos, and someone step on them.

I never would have made it through today's world.
It's almost illegal for a kid to just be a kid now.
Remember airsoft fights? Potato guns? Knife collections? Super soakers? Royal rumbles? School yard fist fights? Harmless bullying with your peers? Cops and robbers? Cowboys and Indians? Etc....
You get expelled for that now.

I was into art from an early age and began carrying an Exacto knife in my pencil box starting in about 5th grade...so like 1981. Screw all that safety scissors nonsense.
No one said a word, because I was a good kid who was using a tool I knew how to use and there was essentially zero reason to fear me having it.
Today, if my 11 year old, who is much as I was back then, brought his to school, they'd ship his little arse to Angola.

And don't eat a pop tart on side since they'll think you made a gun.

So they KNEW it was a Lego gun but called the police anyway? Can't a teacher just tell the kid to stop/send to principal if needed elevating?
What happens when a kid points the ole finger gun in class?

Agreed, I would have been in solitary confinement for 5 year olds.

In a statement, a spokesperson for New Haven Public Schools told the news station that “school leaders and local police partners were able to investigate and resolve the issue internally with use of restorative practices.”
“Appropriate steps were taken at the school level to insure the safety of all students and to impress upon the students the seriousness of engaging in positive peer interactions while avoiding conduct that may pose risk or concern to others. All children need to feel safe and secure within the learning environment and we all have a role to play to make that happen,” the statement continued.
This is 2018, ladies and gentlemen.

My daughter when she was in 5th grade, she was running around playing with her friends at recess. While they were playing they were simply saying I'm gonna kill you. The ISSP lady who called was so embarrassed when she called me to tell me "even though this is something we did on a regular basis while we were kids, not only did she get wrote up but if she was in 6th grade she would have been arrested and you would have had to pick her up from being in custody, serve a suspension or even expelled". Wtf?
