Yeah I ride around St. George and all that comes to mind is poor poor St. George. Look how shitty all these roads and infrastructure the City Parish built to house and facilitate all these shitty looking malls and restaurants and subdivisions are..

We residents of the area look at those same things and have three thoughts:

1. We deserve nice roads and infrastructure because we paid for it.

2. We deserve education for our children just as, if not nicer than the roads and infrastructure we paid for. After all, we pay for that, too.

3. Our part of town isn't shitty because we care about it. And we don't want it to turn to shite. That's why we feel the need to do something. Now, if Baton Rouge thinks St. George is nice thanks to their funding and leadership, and we're a burden on THEM, then by all means, let us go, and we will burden you no more. But that's not the case, is it?

My part of town is not shitty. We care for it and actually try to do as much as we can to improve it.

Your point is ridiculous.

Hell, all your points are ridiculous.

The entire parish helps to pay for your infrastructure.

And schools? When was the last time you went to a school board meeting? Or a school event such as a play or concert or fundraiser?

So if St. George doesn't happen, then these businesses now screwed themselves, correct?

How? Maybe they pay higher property taxes, but they also will pay lower insurance rates. It's not a big deal either way. The thing they obviously want to avoid is the worst case scenario, being forced to join a new city called "St. George" that would likely still result in higher taxes for them. And, additionally, with all the sales tax from Baton Rouge residents being highjacked by "St. George", eventually, the city of Baton Rouge would go bankrupt, the economy tanks, and then there goes most of their customer base. It's a very forward thinking move by these companies to ensure that they cannot be separated from the community that supports them.

My son is in Pre-K at Shenandoah Elementary so I plan on attending the school functions and meetings on a regular basis. I also attended one of the "Stay Together" or whatever they call themselves meetings, and expressed my concerns. They tried to play the race card with me, because I told them I didn't feel it was right to bus in children from other parts of town to go to my son's school. Their response was, "Well, don't all children deserve a quality education?" I stated, "Well, if EBR is such a quality school district, then all of the schools should be good across the board, and it shouldn't matter which one a kid attends." They had no response to that except a collective shaking of the heads.

If that's the criteria to have a leg to stand on, we all need to shut the frick up then.

80%-90% of everybody on this board doesn't fit that criteria. And I'm thinking more along the lines of 95-97% to be honest.

What's preventing you from supporting the high schools in the area? They put on plays and hold fundraisers

I'll let my little son attend Shenandoah, because it's a decent school and the majority of those kids haven't been corrupted yet. But there's no way in hell I'll ever send him to one of the middle schools.

Magildachunks, you have some basic comprehension problems.

Saying that my part of town is not shitty does not mean calling your part of town shite. I don't even know what part of town you're from.

quote:

Yeah. No kidding. Last I checked, St. George is part of EBR. So that means we paid into our own infrastructure, just like everyone else in EBR. And guess what? Even after incorporating, we are STILL part of EBR and will continue to pay for parish services.

Relevance? And what are you trying to imply by the part in bold? That I don't have kids... or... if I do, that I don't care to attend their activities at school? frick you.

Two of our kids attended Shenandoah MS. I had no complaints and both went on to excel in high school...one at McKinley (g/t) and one in top 5% at BRHMS. Accept the fact that your kids can get an excellent education in the BR public school system. For the record, I am opposed to the break away.

If you don't care enough to participate now, what makes anybody think you'd care enough when it breaks away?

You think getting a separate school district is magically going to solve the problems?

If so, why would you think that?
