If you’re into things like this I have to push this book on you. Once you pick it up you won’t put it down. Puts you on the front lines with the Marines during the height of the Vietnam war and it’s brutal. Amazing what these heros went through.

ETA: and I know it’s authentic because my uncle is spoken of along with his unfortunate death.

Old ww2 vet i used to visit said he liked the germans better than the french.

I always thought the french were cock suckers for ww1 and ww2 but i give them a pass because of the American revolution. We wouldnt have defeated the british without their help.

I have an uncle that was a tanker in the 3rd Armored. He told a story once about when they were on the drive through Germany. They came upon a German village and came under fire. After a small skirmish, they chased the Germans off, the fighting had damaged several buildings in the village. They stopped in the village for a couple of days for equipment repairs. He said it amazed him that early the next morning, the villagers (he said mostly old men, women, and children) started to clear the debris of the damaged buildings. He said that when they mounted up the next day to resume combat operations, a bunch of German villagers were up on the roof of a church repairing it. He said that this impressed him and after witnessing this he grasped that the Germans were a very industrious people.
