How can afford San Diego?? They call themselves America’s Finest City. It’s got perfect weather and wonderful beaches and lots of people have good jobs and good bodies. Today, it’s the 8th largest city in the country, and it’s growing. At this rate if the city keeps spreading out it might one day be in the top 5.

You can understand why so many people want to live here. It’s pretty laid back - sorta like a mexico/stoner/snobby vibe. But the cost of living and growing poverty are really making it not so easy to love anymore!

In case you haven’t heard, this is now the least affordable city to live in America. Real estate here is SUPER expensive. Why? We'll find out.

It truly is America's Finest city. Great weather year-round, mountains, beaches, and not as crazy politically as the other California cities.

Pretty sure like 10 years ago it actually used to be red didn’t it? Did the Californians finally overwhelm the military population living there?

San Diego has a decent-sized black population because of all the military/naval bases in the area. They aren't the hoodrat type.

Walking distance to TJ (20 years ago it was slightly safer).

I agree. It's by far my favorite American city.

The homeless that they relocate every week or 2 so they can pressure wash the sidewalks really adds a nice touch.

But that's why I live in North SD.

Damnit. My dream city to live in.

Although I guess I’d rather be in Santa Barbara, technically.

This time of year is nice too. Weather normally between, mid 50s to low 70s for high with minor rain mixed in every now and then. But that also means you can make a short drive to the mountains you mentioned and be in snow as well.

Just wanted to enter some stats into the convo....
quote:

San Diego County vote
by party in presidential elections
Year..........GOP......................DEM......................Others
2016-36.6% 477,766---56.3% 735,476------7.1%
2012-45.0% 536,726---52.2% 626,957------2.5%
2008-43.8% 541,032---54.0% 666,581------2.3%
2004-52.5% 596,033---46.3% 526,437------1.2%
2000-49.6% 475,736---45.7% 437,666------4.7%
1996-45.8% 402,876---44.1% 389,964------10.3%
1992-35.7% 352,125---37.2% 367,397------2.5%
1988-45.0% 536,726---52.2% 626,957------27.1%

And before that, it went red every presidential election going back to the 1944.

It's even more conservative when considering governor elections. Check for yourself.

What this shows is a more conservative county. I'm registered as independent so I have no allegiance to any party, but I keep trying to tell conservatives this trend will continue as long as they fight gay marriage and the legalization of weed. Fighting against that in 2022 and beyond is going to be a losing battle. People just won't vote or will vote independent or move to a new party.

Easily one of the finest places in the country IMO. Probably a tie between there and Provo, UT for my favorite cities.
