Should I be able to fly out of MSY Monday at 5 PM or should I start looking at alternative options?

EDIT: Not kidding, family wedding next weekend and I've got 6 of us on a WN 5 PM flight this Monday.

Start making your alternative options right now because the Airport will be shut down starting on Monday early-afternoon.

Remember Gustav and Katrina we're very different experiences in Baton Rouge vs New Orleans.
Both in La.

I didn't see really bad damage until I git below NOLA and that was mostly due to surge.

Katrina's worst damage was NOLA east over to Biloxi. Miss. got ripped.

You have no idea if that is true.

I'm pretty sure they had bad damage to the Jeff parish line... Flood even spilled over into Old Metairie at Airline..

Katrina wiped out Miss. Gulfport/Biloxi didn't even even exist anymore and everything was just built more inland in the recovery. I can't even recognize that place now. I use to go there all the time before Katrina hit and it's a different world now. Looked like someone dropped a nuke on the area. Even the Casinos got blasted.

No. They are saying a Tuesday landfall... not enough time to intensify. It may reach hurricane strength, but will not get to a cat 2. Even though the weather channel is hoping it will.....

And once again just like that Peej's Prediction Corner hits on all cylinders.

If the 17th street canal holds (like it was supposedly design to hold what came) and JP had actually manned the pumping stations then Nola Metro damage would not been nearly as bad.

MS received far worse damage from the actual storm. I even believe the TP had a headline that went out saying NO dodged the bullet however the interior canal walls failed some time after the storm passed.

CE from the engineering side? I have no clue what you do. Thanks either way for doing a bang up job.

If that track holds up and it shifts just a little west NO is in major trouble. On the optimistic side though, those rainfall totals are hard to project but it's not unrealistic seeing how slow the current track has it moving. Seems similar to Isaac when it hit us that just dumped rain in the same parts for 2 days.

Totally understand... But someone mentioned how lucky we've been since Katrina... I was just saying the years between Camille and Katrina we were really lucky... We had to deal with Gustav ans Isaac since...

Gustav was bad...

Hurricane damage and flooding from flood walls collapsing are two different things. JP only flooded bc they turned off the pumps. Everything west of the industrial canal was damaged only due to the shitty levee upkeep by army corps of engineers. East of the industrial canal to Pascagoula was true hurricane damage.

Agreed. Most of the damage Jefferson and Orleans Parishes suffered inside of lever protection was man made.

If it does, my guess is it will be like Hurricane Cindy that hit us in May of 2005... Remember that one? A certain other storm made a lot of people forget about it...
