Only ones worse than the dick in charge of safety is an HR manager. those guys have no sense of humor and are pretty much paid to harass you.

Aren't you the guy that has a job with the railroad and a drinking problem? I'd be watching your arse like a hawk if I was him too

Everyone drinks at the railroad. You can kill your liver and take as many prescription pills you want but smoke one joint and your finished and it's funny because weed is like the one thing that's the least harmful. So many guys take sleeping pills because of the work schedule along with adderall

Safety man told a crew his job was “to make sure if you get hurt out here that it’s your fault.”
HR lines were lit up the next day and this guy was gone, even though he was telling the absolute truth.

I can't wait to be a Safety Manager in the civilian world. Looking for that perfect landing spot with relatively few morons tasked with wielding powered equipment.

This is like getting mad at the accountant for watching company expenses.

These people were the runt in the neighborhood and feel the need to project power. They're insufferable.

And it is kind of sad. These safety managers' job is to not only keep employees safe, but more importantly, keep the company safe from "good ole boys" who have been doing it "their" way for years. If anyone has a job that requires them to be monitored by a safety manager, it is because both they & the people around them aren't smart enough to handle it themselves. Not to mention, their arse in on the line more than any of the blue collar workers posting in this thread. When the worker screws up and it affects the company, the safety manager is who they throw under the bus.

All you have is a Safety Manager doing this? Consider yourself lucky.

Most facilities of a 200+ employees have employee participation teams where they get some training and do so many observations per month. You may have an accountant wandering around with a pen and pad or Karen from IT telling you how to ascend your scaffolding.

As a safety manager, this is correct.

I don't hate you, Mr Safety Man. As an IT guy in manufacturing for 19 yrs, I've been on the Emergency Response Teams and Safety Observation teams.

The attitude that they're being watched and reprimanded by 'idiots' will never fully disappear no matter how much we promise them it's anonymous, for their own good and improvement, etc.

It's a tough job in my opinion.

I wouldn't want it.
They have to understand lots. Yet, are responsible for the behavior of others.

Some idiot can neglect PPE or procedure and get hurt.
And it'll be safety guy who takes fall.
No thanks.
