Safe to run a generator in a structure not connected to your house?

I have a 2 car garage not connected to any part of the main house. Thinking about running an extension chord from it to the house. Is it safe to run the generator in that enclosed space? I just want to be 100% sure. Thanks and good luck to all.

No. When you go into your garage there could be a dangerous concentration of CO.
Any way you can vent it? Like leave a door open or a window and direct a fan to it to force a draft?

Will not go into garage until all windows and door could be opened and generator pulled out to refuel etc

You plan on entering that enclosed space at any point to add fuel to the generator? Bc you will be creating filling that space with carbon monoxide

Will not refuel while it is indoors

Not a good plan, I hope you don’t have kids or any family running around That could walk in there

It’s best not to. If you can’t force ventilation while it’s running, it would be a hell of a lot safer to just not run it.

This screams Murphy’s law. Do NOT tempt fate! Don’t do it man.

It can be. Make sure the shed is well ventilated and you'll be fine. I had this setup once when I lived in the Bush.

Where do you people have generators? Everyone I know with them has an out building.

Outside under the patio.
It probably isn’t a good idea to leave your doors and windows for the outbuilding open during a hurricane.

We just ventilate them. Carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air, just use louvers to keep the air fresh.
Put further than 10' away, pump exhaust outside, louvers in shed and you're golden. Under a porch is dangerous.

Yea I get your setup, but most folks at this point may not have time to do all that.
I didnt mean right next to the house on the porch. When it’s not raining it’s in the yard.
