You gotta be a stupid mf'er if you think parking in trees hides a tank from aircraft. Or people on the ground
Actually hiding under trees does hide you from aircraft. Those tanks weren’t under trees, just next to them.

I think the excessive destruction of Mariupol was designed to demonstrate what could happen to other such places should Russia choose to do so. And that aspect of the overall game plan was surely in place before they started running into obstacles and pushback that they didn’t expect. Because I can only assume to achieve the level of destruction in that city, it required a substantial massing of Russian artillery and such to basically have unfettered target practice on a live target, a pretty huge one.
But now perhaps they cannot amass that same combination required to just have an artillery and bombing free for all. Thus their Mariupol destruction threat has gone flaccid.

While there has been an increase of focus and expanding of capabilities along those lines given how much asymmetric warfare has been the need, to claim that the traditional model of an mechanized force spearheaded by a a fist of MBTs is outdated is absurd.
We are talking about the Corps, not the Army.
And the Corps is aiming to occupy islands in the Pacific with small teams that can effect air and sea denial while being extremely hard to detect.

You know, you at least have to respect the tankers, on all sides, in the first two World Wars. Really any before the dawn of this style of war. At least those did battle on roughly equal terms.

Far fewer people die in modern war, so that means far more soldiers will be sitting at a table at Christmas than were after wars prior to WWII.
Those tanks were sent into a foreign country to kill, destroy and conquer. Their destruction prevented that from happening.

The officer corps has been fully indoctrinated.
Many of those officers in the high command who owe their positions to Democratic administrations might be fully indoctrinated. However, the officer corps of the U.S. military is more libertarian than anything and the vast majority of our best officers do not hold with the cultural Marxism you see being espoused from our leading generals/admirals.
