An eight-hour "humanitarian pause" declared by Russia in Aleppo, during which Moscow has told fighters and civilians to leave besieged rebel districts, has begun. But doubts have already been raised about the credibility of the pause, with the U.N. saying it needs longer to get relief in and the U.S. suggesting it may be “too little, too late.” Meanwhile, several residents of the besieged part of Aleppo say that leaving is not a real option and that they view the ceasefire as a media stunt.

More like a "let the terrorists escape" pause

Why is Putin letting the terrorists escape? This is the first time I have been disappointed with him as the leader of the Christian world.

He's not letting them escape. The aim is to take back the city. Where are they going to go?

No it isn't. Not in a huge city that is basically rubble with little surviving infrastructure and a "pause" that may or may not be followed.

And do what?
First and foremost to show a unified West and our Allies...that may slow the escalation of Russian involvement and also deter any additional use of chemical weapons.

After that, utilize any political clout gained to help to find a solution to the refugees......it is a humanitarian mission. I think even this administration and political leadership can frame this up to show unification, deter escalation, and help the people.

If that is done, you can let them duke it out internally in Syria. If they want a civil war, let em have it..but we have to try to stem the ISIS growth over there and admittedly I don't know how to do that. Just wait til they lose Mosul. They will be desperate.

Hmmm....Nah. I like the Russian, bomb them into oblivion, method better. Better to keep a known quantity like Assad in power than to create a vacuum and have these crazies run the country. Assad is a terrible, terrible person. But he's still much better than anything else there.

Making those decisions for countries is the problem

We just need to insure the winner has won on their own merits

If Assad can't win without a Rusiam prescence then the result won't stick. No different than our involvement in Iraq

Russia says "We give you 8 hours of no bombings to leave". UN response is, "We need more than 8 hours to get supplies in". Illogical mother frickers over there

Meanwhile, Russia looks like the good guys for initiating this. C'mon US, get on the ball.

Wow. It's almost like you've learned nothing from the past 100 years of American history.

They ARE the good guys. The US is on the wrong side here by supporting ISIS and doing everything we can to undermine the Russians, who are the only ones aside from the Kurds - who don't even have a real country - who are trying to take ISIS out.
