So what becomes of the ex? She'll get X million, and them what? Grow old in Odessa Texas or something? Marry a plumber?

I'll bet she gets a lump sum settlement or an increase in alimony.
First of all, her lawyer will stall the actual divorce. 2nd, her lawyer will argue that the big contract was earned during the marriage...like if he owned a company and then divorced her right before the company went national. She could argue that all current and future endorsement deals were "earned" during the marriage etc etc etc.
I obviously don't know the divorce law of a lot of states, but lawyers can make the big money maker miserable in so many ways that its better just to settle.
Unless, of course, she cheated or something. But guess what? She's not going to be poor if that isn't the case.
